Why do my DVD players automatically turn on subtitles?
I've noticed with the last three DVD players that I've bought, after a year or so, when I put a movie in, the subtitles are turned on. The players never did that when I first bought them... why do they do it all of a suddden like that? Is there some trick or service button I can use to stop that from happening? The two that it did it on were both Apex brand, and a portable DVD player was Polaroid... they all did it. I can turn it off, but my problem is that I don't want it to turn on at all.

- You should be able to go thru the menu and turn that function off. If you told your exact model someone may be able to give you instuction.
- What brand are they? Toshiba's? I have a Toshiba that does that. Out of all the DVD players I've ever owned, it's the only one that's ever done that.
- Truly there should be a setting in the system menu of the DVD player that allows that function to be dis-/en-abled. Look through your owners manual (or, if you don't have one, look online for the manual and download it--that's what I do) for anything regarding changing system settings. It should also be addressed in the Troubleshooting section...
