Why is the avi video so big after embedding subtitles?

Ok I have this avi video, it's about 250 MB at first, and I embed subtitles into it on Virtual Dub and after it's finished, the new avi is 24 GB....did I do something wrong? @_@ This is what I did, went to Video/Filters, added the subtitle(ssa), open AVI file, then save as AVI...

1. Yep... you forgot to turn on "compression" when you "save as AVI". It's saving it as "raw" AVI.
