Get Subtitles

How do i add an .a s s file into a .avi video so the subtitles are shown on the video?

ok i have a problem, i downloaded a raw movie in japanese and it came with a .a s s file, i opened it with notepad and saw the subtitles there! What do i have to do to add this .a s s file into my video!? please help! (Yahoo blocks it if i write the extensions name all together so i wrote it separated by a space but the real name is a s s all together) Thanx i already solvd my problem i had to merge both of the files with mkvmerge gui to add the subs ive been all day lookin fr that thnx fr ur help
