Get Subtitles

How do I see my English subtitles on my Video file movie in German?

I have the video file, and the srt files. They are of the same file name, just different extensions of course. But when I open the video files using DivX Player, the subtitles don't show. How do I get them to appear in the movie file? Thank you very much in advance!
