Get Subtitles

Cant open subtitles in VLC media player?

the video is a .avi and the subtitles are an SRT file. I cant get them to open together. They're in the same foulder, and have the same name, but I cant get it to work. I dont see any option in VLC to open subtitles at all. OMG! thank you!

1. In VLC goto Settings->Preferences Expand Video Tab. The third menu is subtitles click on it. then there is option for subtitle file in there. click on browse and select your file. If even then subtitles are not visible then check Video menu there will be an option of subtitle or something like that and make sure that this option is not disabled.. Hope that helps
