how do i combine a movie and subtitles?

i downloaded a movie and subtitles, separately. i use vlc media player and i dont know how to combine them. i tried to put them in the same folder. but i cant open the subtitles. help me pls.

1. you should be able to use a program like windows media player to combine the to video clips
2. If the background in the subtitles movie is transparent, you can use Sony Vegas to combine them.
3. To make the subtitles play with the movie place the movie and the subtitle file in a folder it kinda has to go there you'll see in a minute. After that have the subtitle and the movie the exact same name if the movie let's say 1234abcd.avi then the sub should be 1234abcd.srt so when you open the folder it will look like this: 1234abcd.avi 1234abcd.srt If the sub file is NOT an .srt then swing on over to Subscene and pick it up there...http://subscene.com/ Post an update if there is a problem or hit wih an email
