Get Subtitles

How can I add subtitles to a movie with Vobsub or Ffdshow?

I apreeciate if annyone explains it here, step by step. I've been putting the video and subtitles with the same name, together, but some movies dont open because of the subtitle. So, I just downloaded the 2 programs and I dont know how to work with them. They have too many icons and I dont know how to start. Thanks.
