Why is Church Attendance Forbidden in Obama's Youth Brigade?

Here is part of the HR1388 Bill’s wording: SEC. 1304. PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES AND INELIGIBLE ORGANIZATIONS. Section 125 (42 U.S.C. 12575) is amended to read as follows: SEC. 125. PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES AND INELIGIBLE ORGANIZATIONS. (a) Prohibited Activities- A participant in an approved national service position under this subtitle may not engage in the following activities: (1) Attempting to influence legislation. (2) Organizing or engaging in protests, petitions, boycotts, or strikes. (In other words dissent is not allowed nor is dissenting influence.) (7) Engaging in religious instruction, conducting worship services, providing instruction as part of a program that includes mandatory religious instruction or worship, constructing or operating facilities devoted to religious instruction or worship, maintaining facilities primarily or inherently devoted to religious instruction or worship, or engaging in any form of religious proselytization. (Whatever happened to freedom of religion and keeping government OUT of religion? See what's going on ....? Coerced volunteerism is all you hear about - not the devil in the details.)

  1. He is protecting church from state. You sound like a religious extremist right wingnut. I'm sure you'd be up in arms complaining if there was a participant trying to preach muslim or bhuddist scripture in a government facility. You should be happy!
  2. Communist countries don't allow anyone to practice their religion unless it's the state's religion. And they think B.O. isn't a socialist/communist.
  3. Hint: Communism.
  4. Well now all of us NON Obama supporters can finally say WE TOLD YOU SO
  5. Read it again... It is saying the opposite of how you are taking it! They don't want to use this organization to push religion! Reading comprehension is hard. ..... Its so funny how the right wingers here agreed with you, but clearly didn't read the context. If they did, they'd see that you are making the exact opposite point they are upholding. Either they are that dumb or that blinded by partisan attacks.
  6. because it clashes with their red kerchiefs, and with their knives inscribed with "my honor is loyalty" they are not forbidding attendance here; they are forbidding investment in the form of physical labor as well as interactive expression. They want individuals to feel validated and connected to other people through the Nation-State community and its dogma, not through potential rivals. Theoretically, when the dogma "catches," cognitive dissonance will cause the individuals to avoid environments incongruent with the dogma. Regarding 7): this affects those who are from smaller, independent, family religious communities with little resources; young people are forced to choose between the State Youth or participation with their family/community; "Engaging in religious instruction" is far reaching: Summer Bible School for example. "Constructing, operating, and maintaining facilities" extends to such things as mowing the church lawn. Proselytization? that's pretty subjective stuff. Could include quoting proverbs during a conversation. Plenty of things here for rabid Youth Spooks to watch and wait for to have an opportunity to tattle to Comrade Organizer about in return for privileges. So, how exactly are such things enforced? Does this legislation include the penalties incurred by those who are found guilty of washing dishes after church supper? Are their parents culpable too? .
  7. I wonder if this will pertain to Islam and other religions, or if they are targeting Christianity. This is government taking control of our freedoms and rights.
  8. Jack and 'yours horns are showing' are correct. Read it again.
  9. As outlined by the Obama Campaign: - Cannot use federal funds to proselytize or provide religious sectarian instruction. - Cannot discriminate against nonmembers in providing services. They must remain open to all and cannot practice religious discrimination against the populations they serve. - Must comply with federal anti-discrimination laws, including Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. - Religious organizations that receive federal dollars cannot discriminate with respect to hiring for government-funded social service programs. - Can only use taxpayer dollars on secular programs and initiatives. - Must prove their efficacy and be judged based on program effectiveness. They will be expected to demonstrate proven program outcomes to continue to receive funding. I LIKE it! A request for fairness and accountability. Something wrong with being fair and accountable?
  10. The godless communist leaders cannot have the people thinking there is a god more powerful than them now, can they? Jack: "The devil cites scripture to suit his purpose." =))
  11. Well, the way I see it, Obama is trying to turn the State into the official religion, much like in places like Communist China, Cuba, etc. I was right to fear how Obama's supporters viewed him as a mesiuhh and I think when Obama is off teleprompter he reveals his true colors. http://novus2.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/obamunism.gif http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_AOdk-xDdPJM/SFKffHPQPLI/AAAAAAAAAAU/PQV9Hh2JZSg/s400/obamunism.jpg
  12. This does not preclude church attendance, or attendance of any religious services, but rather that religious activity cannot be part of the program.
