Here is part of the HR1388 Bill’s wording: SEC. 1304. PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES AND INELIGIBLE ORGANIZATIONS. Section 125 (42 U.S.C. 12575) is amended to read as follows: SEC. 125. PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES AND INELIGIBLE ORGANIZATIONS. (a) Prohibited Activities- A participant in an approved national service position under this subtitle may not engage in the following activities: (1) Attempting to influence legislation. (2) Organizing or engaging in protests, petitions, boycotts, or strikes. (In other words dissent is not allowed nor is dissenting influence.) (7) Engaging in religious instruction, conducting worship services, providing instruction as part of a program that includes mandatory religious instruction or worship, constructing or operating facilities devoted to religious instruction or worship, maintaining facilities primarily or inherently devoted to religious instruction or worship, or engaging in any form of religious proselytization. (Whatever happened to freedom of religion and keeping government OUT of religion? See what's going on ....? Coerced volunteerism is all you hear about - not the devil in the details.)

The first step towards a communist dictatorship is to take away the voice of dissent. We were told for a year and a half about "what a centrist" Obama was, but now that he's in, he's WAAAY past socialist. Besides his spending, we're seeing attacks on the first amendment, (our right to complain), and attacks on the second amendment, (our right to fight for the first amendment). Anyone remember Tienamen Square? ****Of course it will always be okay to protest if it's over global warming, or the wrongdoings of the rich.... Kind of like it was okay to vote in Cuba,,,or Iraq,,, or Venezuela????

we have always had a seperation of church & state but many churchs are telling their parishnors how to vote & lying to them while tax payers are paying for them to be exempt...think!

You need to review our country's glorious history And what the founding fathers intended. The reason Obama wants to limit free speech is soon people will be speaking out (a lot are now) and he wants to be able to stop it. Why do you think MO troopers are told to watch for bumper stickers that are 'against' Obama and other stickers that support Ron Paul. It is because they 'think' those people might be terrorists. How stupid is that? Why is Obama building all thise prison camps based on the Japanese Interment camps during WWII - he says it is to hold illegal aliens in case they come across the border in a horde. I think that Obama dissenters are going to wind up there. Did you know he has already set a new higher tax on raw milk and now many many dairies (some 3rd or 4th generation family dairies) are going out of business as they now can't pay their feed bills?? Obama's plan is so simple and effective it will probably work: Bring the country to its knees financially, rioting will start because of food shortages and fuel costs, etc. Declare Martial law because of the rioting. Become a dictator. Americans? Are you out there? Are you going to just let it happen? PS The only thing I look forward to is the media that is now in his pocket - getting zapped. What - no free speech? They might wake up but I doubt it.
The restrictions you list apply only to service organizations applying for federal grant money. They do not apply to every person. The same restrictions apply to many other non-profit organizations that seek grants of federal money. They are routine. They wouldn't apply to you unless you happen to be a non-profit organization that would like to receive funding from the federal government for specific service projects. OK, brainiac, people in government positions are often prohibited from engaging in political activities...Think about it, so you want someone who you consider to be a socialist dictator (your delusion, not mine) to form a government sponsored group engaged in political activities. This IS KEEPING GOVERNMENT OUT OF RELIGION. Obviously this is a government program, if it included religion, it WOULD BE INVOLVING GOVERNMENT IN RELIGION. Do yourself a favor. Take a break from your right wing gas bags and get in touch with reality.
Obama is not trying to undermine your Free Speech but you need to exercise your common sense and read things in the context they are presented in. HR 1388 is the GIVE Act which is summarized as: "The Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education (GIVE) Act would dramatically increase funding for AmeriCorps and other volunteer programs, including those for seniors and veterans. It also establishes a goal of expanding from 75,000 government-supported volunteers to 250,000, and would increase education funding and establish a summer service program for students, paying $500 (which would be applied to college costs) to high-school and middle-school student who participate." This bill amends another federal service bill for volunteer service and this bill nor the one it amends force you to volunteer for anything. They give people a further incentive to volunteer in their neighborhoods, cities, country, and overseas. This bill has nothing to do with limiting an individuals freedom of speech, just like one of the other folks in this thread stated, but governs the way these organizations work in keeping with the separation of church and state.
