Get Subtitles

Chinese subtitles show up as square boxes when playing movies in mkv format using VLC? Please help!?

What do I need to install in order to display the chinese subtitle correctly? There's no problem with my PC because it has East Asian Language support installed. When I open the subtitle (.srt) file as a text file, the chinese subtitles are displayed correctly. So it's only a problem with I play it with VLC. Please help solve it. Thanks. I have an additional question: How do I burn MKV movie to DVD or VCD directly along WITH the subtitle? Do I need to convert it first? What softwares will do the job? Thanks. I already install the chinese pack (as indicated within my question). I could read/write in Chinese with my PC. So I don't think there's problem with my PC. I was thinking maybe I need to install Chinese codec to the VLC player. pwwilly, are you saying I have to install codec to VLC player? If yes, what codec. Thanks. Hi whiffleballx, thanks for your help. I went to Setting->Preference->Video->Subtitle/OSD->Text renderer, and under font, I browse to C:\WINDOWS\Fonts, but I do not find 儷宋 Pro.ttf. Do I need to download and install that first? Thanks so much. Sorry, forgot to say, if yes I need to install 儷宋 Pro.ttf: where can I download and how to install? thanks. 1. You answered your own question.
  2. Under VLC Preferences you need to go to Video > Subtitles/OSD > Text renderer and choose 儷宋 Pro.ttf as your font. Then click Advanced in the lower left and choose a font size of 22 or so. After closing the video and opening it again the subtitles should come up properly.
