Is the U.S, gov. trying to ban religion?

I am asking this because I recently received an email from an American friend that a Bill (HR 1388) was put through your House of Reps and passed 321-105 in favor and is now to go to your Senate. The bill's title is apparently “Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education” (GIVE) and the following is part of the Bill's wording, SEC. 1304. PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES AND INELIGIBLE ORGANIZATIONS. Section 125 (42 U.S.C. 12575) is amended to read as follows: SEC. 125. PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES AND INELIGIBLE ORGANIZATIONS. (a) Prohibited Activities- A participant in an approved national service position under this subtitle may not engage in the following activities: Under this section we then supposedly read the following point 7 (7) Engaging in religious instruction, conducting worship services, providing instruction as part of a program that includes mandatory religious instruction or worship, constructing or operating facilities devoted to religious instruction or worship, maintaining facilities primarily or inherently devoted to religious instruction or worship, or engaging in any form of religious proselytization. Is this be the official beginning of the U.S. government trying to ban religion? Bob, actually I have read the entire bill, have you? It does not simply separate Church and state from interfering with each other, it forbids those actively participating in this from what they do in their private lives in relation to their faith. Bob, taking a line out of context just so you sound like you know what you're talking about might fool the ignorant, but it will not fool everyone.

  1. That is the beginning of Obama building his private army. Democrat organizations like ACORN qualify for the mandatory "voluntary" service all young people will be required to participate in.
  2. They are only banning religion in government which is already a part of our constitution. A little bit of knowledge can be very dangerous, so you should always try to get as much as you can. If you would take the time to read the entire bill, and not take a section that has been taken out of context, this would be obvious. The U.S. government is not "trying to ban religion" but the government has been separated from religion for our very beginnings therefore, any government entity should no be involved in any religious activities. EDIT: You most certainly have not read it very carefully then, It forbids these activities as a part of the program. It does not forbid anything they do in their private life-- how in world did you miss the phrase "as a part of the program?!" . It is this kind of delusional, hysterical, paranoid thinking that has killed the conservative movement in this country, so be my guest to indulge it and kill the entire failed conservative agenda.
  3. Religion is a personal and private matter. I have no problem keeping evangelical proslytizing separate from government programs. I don't want to be preached at and imagine others may feel the same way. Nothing wrong with this article. There is nothing that says you can not go out and practice a religion, just don't bother others.
  4. Sounds like it to me.
