1. Laserdiscs? Someone still uses laserdiscs? In Akihabara in Tokyo, I never see these for sale anymore. Movie DVDs seem to always be marked with "subtitles optional". I have found that using the DVD controller always works, although sometimes the online menus for turning ON/OFF subtitles fail. You can see the "subtitles optional" notice on the cover of the DVD or read it on the Amazon Japan WWW site.
