How to get English subtitles on VLC Media Player?

I have a movie that I'm trying to watch on VLC Media Player and it's in French. I've tried seeing how I can put English subtitles, but am getting no help. Does anyone know how to get English subtitles?

1. If they are not in the base movie, there are not any. Click on Menu
2. download subtitles from net of same format in which format the movie is. now just drag the subtitle file and drop it into the vlc player when the movie is playing
