Get Subtitles

Subtitles show symbols...Help?

I've downloaded Russian subtitles and opened them in notebook and word pad to see if they're good. The problem is that every subtitle is in weird symbols like êàê ïåõîòà ÑØÀ. I didn't try burning it on the dvd yet but how can i fix this?
