  1. You're ignorant
  2. actually, whenever i watch a DVD i prefer to have the subtitles ON.
  3. I think its stupid when they have like spanish subtitles I mean what the heck is the point of that. If we are going to have to read it, why not get them to speak english its not like it adds anything to the movie!
  4. No, because the subtitles are merely the characters talking with a few tips on what other sounds are going on, mainly for the hearing impaired. I use it sometimes, because it seems like the movies are made where the music is SO much louder than the talking on the movie, and I can't always understand what the characters are saying. But I do have some trouble hearing.
  5. I don't mind subtitles, but I do find myself reading more than watching..
  6. You can always find out which theaters near your house do not show subtitles. Although they are annoying to you, there are hearing impaired people (not necessary deaf) who need them. Also, some actors speak as if they had a potato stuffed in their mouths, and it is hard to understand what it is they are saying. Haven't you ever had that experience? I mean, you can't rewind the movie at the theater and it sucks to miss an important piece of the dialogue just because someone mumbles their words!
  7. I like subs better then voice overs. You can still hear the emotion, instead of a huge muscle guy sounding like a cheer leader.
  8. No, they don't. Hearing the foreign language as it was meant to be keeps the integrity of the emotions occuring. If you don't like to read, then don't watch foreign films. And unfortunately, you probably do need to read a book, it will challenge you more than having everything the way you want it, in small words clearly sounded out in English.
  9. Some movies are actually better with original dialect and subtitles. I watched a movie, Ong Bak with subtitles then later I watched it with a friend who had the dubbed version and some of the words/dialect had been changed. Also not all dubbing people match the original actors voice so I'd rather have subs than a badly dubbed movie any day.
  10. What would those with hearing impaired do if there were no subtitle or closed caption available? I actually prefer to watch all movies with subtitle. Sometimes, it is hard to understand what someone is saying. With the closed caption turned on, you get to read it on the TV and not miss word they say. Sure, it is distracting if you are not used to it, but you can turn it on and off. Sometimes, foreign movies are very good. The only way we would get to see them and understand them is if they had english subtitle on them.
  11. Having subtitles is an excellent way of improving your spelling, because you're constantly seeing the words. Also, it helps a lot when the characters are either whispering or muttering. I find that I can understand a lot better with subtitles.
  12. Subtitles can become distracting. A lot of times the translation gets lost anyway so the subtitles don't make much sense. Have you seen Kung Fu Hustle? A friend of mine who is fluent in Chinese, told me that it is hilarious. Well, I didn't find it very funny. The subtitles didn't do the movie justice. My friend forgot that I don't understand Chinese when she recommended the movie to me and said that it isn't funny going by the subtitles.
