I'm trying to learn Spanish, should I watch a movie with English spoken, Spanish subtitles or the opposite?
I was told that you can help learn a language by watching a movie in the other language. But should I watch with English spoken with Spanish subtitles, or Spanish spoken with English subtitles? And also should it help me subliminally, or should I be trying to memorize and associate the words?

- spanish with english subtitles
- Spoken in Spanish, with English subtitles. That way you can hear the Spanish and match them up with English words. I suppose the other way wouldn't hurt either, but you'll hear the Spanish pronunciation this way.
- You should definetly watch a Spanish one with English subtitles. If you watch an english one you will just get distracted by the subtitles. If you watch a spanish one you will wonder what they meant and look to the subtitles and relate it to english, and you will learn much more quickly.
- I assume you have had some formal training first, like grammar and vocabulary? Good! You're ready. It is best to avoid the movies with the subtitles. Not only do they not translate exactly, but they are distracting if you are interested in concentrating on the Spanish part. Do not make any attempt to understand every single word you hear, and don't get hung up on the little words, either. What is important is to get the context of what is going on. The setting, body language and tone of voice will tell you a lot. Get a good dictionary, and you can look up the words you are curious about when the movie is over. Don't forget soap operas and other stuff on Spanish-language TV stations if you have them in your area. I hope this has been of help to you. Good luck!
- Try doing both that way u get used to heairng the language, while knowing what they're saying, and also seeing the language written while knowing what they're saying too

- you should watch the movie in Spanish and use the English subtitles.
- As soon as you have a basic knowledge, watch the movie in spanish with spanish subtitles. The written part isn't exactly the same as the spoke one (it's shorter), and it will help you a lot.

Hope you have a dictionary Spanish/English and vice versa, A Spanish speaking friend would be also of help to you learning Spanish. That´s the way I learned Spanish and by working in Spain for a couple of years as a tourist guide, but I could never have done that unless I had studied Spanish the way you suggested, Spanish movies with English subtitles, but it takes more, try to take a course or figure it out yourself. - Neither. When I was trying to learn English I used to watch movies and TV Shows in English with English subtitles... Well that's after I learned a little English... I think that's the best way.

Watch the film as you listen to the story. 2.Eavesdrop. When you hear people speaking in Spanish try to understand what they are saying to each other. 3.Be fearless.
