How can I add subtitles on Verizon Fios TV?

I don't know what steps to follow to turn on the subtitles to the TV shows. Actually, one of my friend did it before, but now she doesn't remember how to do it. After the lights had gone off, TV was turned on without subtitles. By the way, yesterday afternoon the lights went off. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

1. I assume you mean closed captioning. Those options are in the menu on the set top box. Just hit the menu button on your remote. It's in there.
